Wedding in the Great Smoky Mountains

Ashley Lodge Photography, Rock the Dress, Uncategorized, wedding

Holly Thiele & Andrew Metz are originally from Illinois, where they grew up, met and fell in love! They share a mutual love for rescue dogs, hiking and just being generally good humored and kind. Sounds to me like the foundation for a pretty amazing life together!

Holly and Andrew were married on April 9th, 2015 at The Gatlinburg Mansion, as their family who had flown from all over enjoyed  not only the breathtaking view of the Smokies, but the absolute stunning bride Holly was as well!

Holly and Andrew both wrote heartfelt notes to each other to read after getting ready. Andrew must have written something very sweet because Holly was crying with joy. I’ll bet she couldn’t wait to call that sweetheart her husband!

Of course, the first look is always an emotional time as well, and I was over the moon they chose to do this with such a beautiful view of the smokies behind them.

As the soon to be Mr & Mrs Metz were prepping to say their vows, mom and dad Thiele had a trick up their sleeve! Since Holly & Andrews ‘fur babies’, Arlo and Hope could not attend the ceremony, they placed paw prints down the aisle to symbolize their support in spirit.

A very unique unity ceremony, Holly and Andrew both poured dirt brought in from their home towns into a unity plant and watered it together! Such a fun way to symbolize two families becoming one!

Of course, no Rocky Top wedding is complete without a Rock the Dress session at Grotto Falls!

Holly & Andrew-Thank you so much for trusting me with your day! Best wishes back in Illinois!

Autumn & Eldon’s rustic country wedding at Allandale Mansion! 4/4/15

Ashley Lodge Photography, wedding

coverOn April 4th, 2015, Autumn and Eldon were married on a beautiful sunny day at Allandale Mansion in Kingsport, TN.  It was such an honor to be there and celebrate with them. The Burgin family are light hearted, funny, practical and kind. They have three children who were a big part of the day, Haley, Kody and little baby Eason.

Love Will Win-A touching story of marriage in East Tennessee

Ashley Lodge Photography, gay marriage, LBGT rights, love will win, morristown, Photogrphy, tn

Do you remember the first time?

You know, the first time you saw that ONE person that you just knew you had to spend the rest of your life with? The way you couldn’t seem to get words past your tongue without stuttering, the one who made your palms sweat and head spin every time they came near you. Waiting so eagerly for them to text you back so you could think of something cute or witty to say, hoping they would be smiling on the other end?

Did you hold onto that person? Did you nurture that love and spend time building a glorious relationship build upon trust and respect?

Did you get married? Did your groom dip you romantically while you kissed him for the first time as a married couple as everyone applauded? Do you remember dancing with daddy while he cried, cutting your cake and smashing it in your new husband’s face? Good times, right? Memories to last a lifetime….Are you still together? Have you started a family or planning one? Are you certain for better and for worse you have become one heart, experiencing life together as a single entity exploring the joys and sorrows of eternity together?

Raymond and Matt are.

They have been together for longer than most married couples I know. 9 years and they share a love that is true and beautiful, just like the one I share with my husband, or you share with your wife.

Last year, they tried for a marriage license, knowing full well they would be rejected. They wanted to try it anyway, as an act of solidarity.
You can watch the heartfelt video footage of it HERE.

Thursday, October 26th, at 11 am I met with the amazing people with the Campaign for Southern Equality.
20,000 followers on facebook alone (and counting!) you can see this is not a small community of people looking for LBGT rights in the south. That is not even counting the masses who are afraid to come out publicly, for fear of judgement or being ostracized in the community.

We met at the Rose center, said a prayer that moved me to tears and went on our way to the courthouse

The rain did not stop us from a slow walk across the street during lunchtime.
There was unity and purpose to what we were doing, even if we knew the inevitable result.

We came together again in a circle of prayer.
I truly felt a connection right here. It was a beautiful.

Reverend Jasmine Beach-Ferrara  waits anxiously with Raymond and Matt as we prepare to enter the courthouse.

There was a tangible sense of unity, pride and love in the air.
People from all walks of life came to support this brave act and show their support in this beautiful movement that is happening in our nation.

Holding hands as they made their grand entrance, cameras flashing and news reporters crowding them, Raymond and Matt made their way inside.

Raymond and Matt approached the counter and what happened next filled my heart with love and so much hope…

This kind woman, she could have just shot them down right away if she wanted to. What she did instead was go through the process with them, hearing out their story and why they want to be married.

Raymond explained how hard it is to realize his own mortality and fear what would happen to his love if he were to leave this world. He had a close call this year with a hit and run accident that really shook his world.

The bottom line is they love one another.
The same why you love your spouse.
The only thing they intend to do is continue that love with all the same rights members of the straight community get by default.
What is so wrong about that?
equality-4-4It was an emotional experience for everyone, myself included after the clerk upheld the law by denying their union as husbands, owing to no fault of her own. We took a moment to decompress before the paparazzi interviewed the couple.

equality-4-10 (1)

You can watch the interviews here on ABC  & NBC

Regardless of the outcome, we were so proud of Raymond and Matt for taking a stand today.

I cannot wait for the day Tennessee couples can finally say ‘I do!’ and revel in the love and commitment of a satisfying and happy marriage.
This matter is very close to my heart, being raised with family members and best friends who are gay and transgender, most of which are sadly not out yet for fear of unfair treatment, threats of violence or confrontation.
I pray for the day we will all have equal rights, as the founding fathers of this great nation intended. I will continue the support until all 50 states are legal.
I will never stop loving each and every soul and I intend to teach my children the same, just as my family taught me. Because it’s right.
I would also like to officially announce (it has been off the record until right now) it would be my pleasure to capture the special moments in your family’s history. No matter who you are, all sexual orientations, I will photograph your engagement, marriage, newborn and family photos with care and love.
All are welcome at Ashley Lodge Photography.
Love Will Win.
God Bless,
Ashley Lodge

13 Photos to help you sleep better

Ashley Lodge Photography, Ghost Hunter, morristown, Natural Light Photography, Photogrphy, tn

The title of this post is a lie. Well, it’s two lies really.

The first lie is there are actually 14 images, but hey it is almost Halloween so 13 sounds way cooler. Also, I am not so sure if this will help you paranoid insomniacs out there. Yet if you are anything like me there is nothing like a good ghost story to tuck you in at night.

This is Jim McGee. Most of you know him as a friendly local shop keeper with great stories to tell. He owns Old Town Variety mall in Downtown Morristown, TN, and if you missed my blog about how awesome they are you can find it here.

Jim has a hidden secret though. Many people don’t know that while he is a friendly shopkeeper by day-he is an avid (friendly) ghost hunter by night.

Above the quaint antique shop he runs with the help of some amazing folks, there lies the first apartment building/hotel in Morristown. Built in 1914 it is celebrating it’s 100th year in existence. You know who else is celebrating this centennial?
You guessed it-ghosts! Jim is gonna find them too. Just you wait!

Equipped with him EVP recorder and EMF detector (for those of you not hip to ghost hunting acronyms that is Electronic Voice Phenomenon & Electro Magnetic Field) Jim hopes to break apart his own skeptic nature and find what could be the truth about what is lurking in the shadows of history.

Here is what ‘normal’ looks like

This is what it looks like if there is strong energy (omg ghosts!) in a certain area

jimghosts-2866There were a few times the last red light was flashing so strongly it was off the charts! So why in the world would ghosts or residual energy be ‘haunting’ an old burnt down remnant of an apartment/hotel from 100 years ago? There are many theories involving science like material memory and string theory,  however this area had it’s own bit of traumatic history from years ago.  Back when this was an apartment block, there was a fire in the top floor where we were standing. Tragedy took the life of a little boy, who passed away from smoke inhalation. Whether the spikes in the EMF detector (in the room right next to where he dies) tell us anything or not, Jim is after the truth!

jimghosts-2870This photo was taken in the spot where the EMF detector goes crazy. Jim demonstrated to me that this is not a parlor trick, nor does it have anything to do with the dead plug socket or our cell phones. He has been investigating this area for years and still has no answer. My equipment started acting a little crazy in this area as well. If there is one thing I know well, it’s my camera, and I was really amazed to find my auto focus going haywire, as well as very strange thick hazing in certain areas where the light made no sense to act that way. Spooky.

Jim is dead serious about figuring it all out though, check out his page The Graveyard Shift. It is all about local haunts and teaming up with other investigators to find out the truth.

One thing is certain, if there is a creepy dark corner or spooky noise that cannot be explained-Jim is running head first to it to uncover it’s secrets.

Jim ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, they may be a little spooked by him  and his awesome trench coat!

Speaking of dark and creepy corners, what is this?!

A spooky sign! Jim is running a Ghost Hunt again this year which is also be a celebration of this buildings 100th year in history! Call the number to get information and book your spot.

Thats not all you will experience though! Jim has worked so hard collecting Morristown TN artifacts he has an entire museum in the floor below this haunted attraction. Enjoy some amazing storytelling by Jim Clayborn alongside some forgotten facts and history on the city we live in and love.

For a ghoulishly good time Call 423-438-1023 for more information or check out The Graveyard Shift.
